Wold Primary School

A little bit about us

Standards

Very good teaching linked with well motivated children and parents with excellent 'support staff' create a stimulating and friendly environment for learning. All children wear school uniform and there is thriving 'School Council' who meet once a week with teacher to give their ideas on school improvement.

Since September 2003, we have introduced a 'Team Point' system to reward and consolidate good behaviour and positive attitudes. All children are very enthusiastic about this system which they discussed at their 'School Council Meetings'. We ran a competition to chose the 'Team Names' which are, Red Wolves, Blue Owls, Green Lions, Yellow Dragons. Gold certificates are given out at our Full School Assemblies on Monday.
PSHE

Four teachers attend a course on this area and we place a big emphasis on this area of the curriculum. After the daily worship in assemblies, PSHE is introduced by staff to cover the many moral issues facing children in and out of school. We use older pupils at break-times in the Key Stage 1 playground (Funky Friends) to help children play well together. We have an extremely large playground for Key Stage 2 which allows many different activities to take place and we recently installed benches allowing the children to sit and talk to each other. We have a large playing field which is used to host football competitions for the city.

Extra Curricular

The school offers a very wide provision of activities at lunchtimes and after school. Clubs include, Spanish, Italian, football, rugby, netball, table tennis, tennis, art, newspaper, steel band and choir. The school has a very successful tradition in all competitive sport and the current Head Teacher actively supports music and sport. The recently formed choir entertains at concerts as does the 'steel band' which offers a unique opportunity for many pupils. The Chair of Governors organises many tournaments for the city and takes football practice for one of the year groups. We have many boy and girl football teams And staff are very generous in giving up a lot of their time to help run all the clubs.
Teaching and Learning

The school is now concentrating even more on how children learn and how through our teaching we are encouraging 'thinking and problem solving skills'. All Key Stage 2 children have a book on How the Brain Works and we have 'sports bottles' with the Wold logo on them to encourage children to drink water at school. Classroom discipline is excellent with very little levels, if any, of classroom disruption. Parents are very supportive and usually the mention of seeing a parent is enough to remind children how to behave. We continue to work hard on instilling a pleasant but a fair code of discipline in the school and the use of music around the school and in the Dining Room has been installed to help reinforce a calm and pleasant atmosphere.

Regular Assessment of children's work tales place each term and curriculum groups set clear objectives for their subjects. All teachers are encouraged to 'take risks' in their teaching and there is a strong emphasis on children working together as well as on their own. The school has a high quality of support staff who work with children with 'special needs' and in the classroom. We are now making the needs of 'more able' children a clear priority with children being targeted for extra help, especially in Maths at both Key Stages.

Children produce good quality books and magazines which are read by all the school and we are always looking for ways of getting children to write for 'different audiences'.
Professional Development

The Head Teacher is committed to developing the potential of all staff and sees 'Performance Management'as a good vehicle to move this forward . The school is at the forefront of the 'Re-modelling of the Workforce' agenda and intends to be creative in it's use of the excellent CSA workforce. All of our staff are very professional with a good sense of humour and are united with our Governing Body to making us the best school in Hull.

We welcome visitors at All times and I am sure you will see at first hand our 'Joy in Learning'.
